The Blessing of Harvest Has Arrived!

First you are probably wondering if you are in the right blog. You are. Just a different name. I wanted something that was not strictly gardening because I like sharing other topics like faith, food, dogs and farming. And Trowel & Seed fits all that we do in the farm beautiful. Now that the clarification is out of the way, on to today’s topic— farming!

Yesterday was the official start of our harvest. And I am so glad because I can tell that my husband has been itching to start. While we still have to wait a few weeks for the corn, the soybeans were ready to rock n’ roll. Actually, we probably could have started combining them last week based on their moisture content.

I normally do not farm or do the combining of crops because I work fulltime. However, I work from home so I am more of a logistics support with the kids and their sports practices, and cooking for my husband and those who help us farm, which are dear friends of us too. So I like creating meals that are nourishing and show that we care. Anyhow, yesterday I did jumped on the combine with my hubby for a couple of hours, and helped with the grain carts. And it was lots of fun!

Harvest is also a time when I am in awe of the Lord’s for His provision. We are blessed with wonderful harvest every year, It is a time when we reap the fruits of our labor, but also when we are reminded that farming is a cycle and a lot of it is dependent on our faith and prayers for good weather… lots of prayer.

In the afternoon, my hubby called to come and get him. While we have a big farm, we actually live in town. But next spring we are starting construction on our new house— Actually, it will be built in this field where he combined today, And we cannot wait. We need the space badly. But even though our house is smaller than we like, we are very thankful to God that we own it and its paid off. We never take that for granted.

As I went to get him, he laughed, because I was wearing my new REVIVAL hat. He knows I love it, In case you are wondering what this hat is all about, it is from the American Campfire Revival. Have you heard about it? No? Then let me introduce you to the amazing concept.

Just as the new Administration started its first 100 days, Christian actor Kirk Cameron started doing these sessions at home— in his backyard— with worship, prayer and studying of the founding principles of America. He did this for 100 days. As a result, millions of people gathered virtually around a campfire via Facebook with him in his backyard as part of the American Campfire Revival: 100-Day Plan.

This was truly a blessing during a time when I personally felt like we needed to just be in fellowship with other Christian who love this country. And exciting news—we found out on Friday that there’s going to be another 100-day session and I’m so excited! Here’s to more worship, fellowship and paying it forward! You can learn more HERE.

I could not believe all the soybeans that he harvested by himself— the rest will start helping today. Needless to say, he was exhausted when he was done. I love this man and his dedication. I never take him for granted, but It is in these moments when I see how hard he works to provide, that I love my husband even more. Here is to a safe and successful harvesting 2021 season!
