FIRST ROSES OF THE SEASON

The first of the David Austin roses of the season have bloomed, and not surprisingly, it was Scepter’d Isle rose. This is a well established rose for me compared to the others, on its third year, and while it has not been as prolific as it was last year, it is doing beautifully. It has taken lots of care to get her to this point, as I was not sure if it would make it through the winter while it was overwintering in my unheated garage. But alas! Here she is and looking lovely.

This year the colors seem lighter than last year but I believe it is due to the heat, as it has been unseasonably hot here in Minnesota since late April/early May. Normally, we still have snow around that time. But it is still as delicately fragrant as ever.
