Rose ‘Claire Austin’ is my long time coming rose. Last year when I started growing David Austin roses, this was the one rose I ordered that did not come out of dormancy. Thankfully, the good people from David Austin replaced it thanks to their 5-yr. guarantee.
I was pretty upset because I have never been a fan of white or cream color roses, but something about this one made me curious. Introduced in 2007, this elegant rose was named after the legendary rosarian’s daughter. This climbing rose has the most delicate cream color blooms that are heavily scented, and they are set against the most beautiful dark green foliage. The blooms remind me of little cups when they’re opening and the fragrance is a sweet almost vanilla-like scent. It is good for disease resistance, can get up to 12ft. tall and has repeat flowering.
I am growing mine in a container and it is doing beautifully. This is a necessity for me because I live in zone 4B and this beauty would die in the winter. Again, worth every effort to have it growing in my home.
If you are looking for a beautiful rose that will add elegance to your garden, this is a must. I must warn you that the flower does not last long as a cut flower. But it is so worth it.
